Damn dat 964 Carrera RS is nice!
The 964 doesn't get enough love.

Great Odin's Raven that 964 is beautiful!

Hey guys. I'd really appreciate it and if I can get author privileges, I'm planning on doing an Oppo review of my BMW 2002 once I get back from school. Here's a Turbo as thanks!
![]() 03/26/2014 at 01:08 |

Exactly why I posted that specific pic! It deserves all the love that the 993 gets too! I will be addressing this in a post sometime in the future!
![]() 03/26/2014 at 01:14 |

The great thing about it not getting as much love as the classic 911s and the 993 is you can get a better deal on them!
Some people don't like how the 964 looks. I never understood why. It just looks like a slightly modernized version of the car it replaced. What's wrong with that?

Have you been approved yet?
![]() 03/26/2014 at 01:17 |

Not yet. I'll give it a little while. Unfortunately, I have a paper than needs some attention but I'll check back sporadically. Thanks for your help, man!
![]() 03/26/2014 at 01:18 |

Exactly! I mean look at this:
How does this not look good?!?

No problem! I've gotta get to bed as I've got an early class in the morning, but if you're not approved tomorrow, comment on one of my post and I'll try my best to get you approved! Best of luck!

I really have no idea!!!
My old man has a '82 911SC and I actually like how the 964 looks more. It doesn't have the wonky federalized bumpers.

Unbelievable pretty and purposeful. There's a chap that lives on my run route with a white 964, black wheels and sport suspension. It's the perfect 911 for someone who wants a still affordable grass roots usable 911.

YOU HAVE A 2002?!? SOMEONE GET THIS MAN (or woman) AUTHORSHIP! Hopefully a mod finds this and hooks you up. I'm looking forward to a review!
![]() 03/26/2014 at 01:29 |

Well I've grown up with the impact bumpers so with my bias, it is the best looking 911. But truthfully, I think the 964 is the best looking. A modern classic of you will!

Thats my name. Don't wear it out! The story behind it isn't all that interesting, but I'll tell it anyways.
My last name is Mauri and, in middle school, we were asked to sign our homework and quizzes with our first initial and last name. S. Mauri was illegibly scribbled across the top of ever paper. Eventually, one of my friends noticed and thought it was the funniest thing he had ever seen in his entire life. I'm not sure why his comical standards were so low, but he started to call me "Smorey" and, when he was feeling particularly lazy, "Smores." This caught on and never died. It was the herpes on nicknames. To this day, there are people who I've known for years who don't actually know my real name! People I went to high school with would, after months, ask who "Sam" was and I would have to calmly explain that, oddly enough, my name was not actually a tasty campfire snack. I've learnt to embrace it.
The T and the M are my middle and last initial.

Thanks! (I'm a man... Legally. Though at the age of 19 some still see me as a boy)
Here's a picture of her, because why not. Its also my avatar.
Everyone, this is Alice after one of her heat shields became loose and made the most terrible rattle you are blessed to never have heard. I had to borrow a suicide jack from my friend's VW just to fix it (read: tear the SOB off) because it was driving me insane. It is also, if I recall correctly, the day my BBS center logo fell off in the parking lot, as seen in the picture.

That's a beautiful car! I'd kill to pick one up as a project!
On another note, fuck those suicide jacks haha My dad's A6 carries one in the trunk and I was always terrified to use it when jacking the car up to check the brakes before I could get a jack stand underneath it.
I'm looking forward to seeing you around here! Welcome to Oppo!

Thanks, man! I'm completely in love with this car and, even though it can be a total pain in the ass, has been surprisingly reliable and inexpensive to own. I got really lucky finding it though. Finding an '02 with no rust on Craigslist for a cheap as I did doesn't happen often.
As far as the jacks go, yeah. They're absolutely terrible. As a general rule I never get under a car without jack stands but in this case I had none. I was under there trying to figure out what was rattling/taking off what was rattling for a solid 10-15 minutes, during all of which I was convinced the jack would fall and kill me.
Thanks for the welcome!

Oh ive been through that too. It was first day of some semester in Highschool. And the teacher started to pass list. I noticed somebody in the class had the same name as me. First and last name. Well to make the story short, he had a stupid random nickname (Eska) and i dont know the story on that, but his friends started calling me that nickname-two (Eska 2). But my friends i hang out with, weren't on that class, so they never knew i had that nickname. If i bump into those people that were on that class, they will greet me with that nickname.
Ah and my account name is, Radial for something that says on tires, and 4.0 because i have a V6 Mustang. Manual is all that matters.

Ah, yes. The classic name-and-a-number nomenclature. I feel your pain there, but at least it was actually my name to begin with.
My friend is looking at a used V6 Mustang, actually. Are they good/fun cars?
![]() 03/26/2014 at 02:19 |

Exactly! It's a modern classic.
And it has to be good or else Singer wouldn't have used the 964 to build their restomod

I've added you. Let me know if you need any help.

Of course there's always a 996. What you lose in "grass roots" you gain in comfort and usability. Make no mistake, the 996 is a fast and exciting car. Especially in the right spec. Think Cup Aerokit, sport suspension, flash colour.
![]() 03/26/2014 at 15:47 |
|
Oh yes of course! People seem to bash on the 996 as much as they do the 964! It's a shame really; I keep telling people that Stuttgart never put out a bad 911, only good, great and fantastic ones! Here's my oppinion of the the 996

Amen. I never read that post when it was up, thanks for the link. I happen to have a 996. Bought it 4 months ago.

That's a nice looking 996! Pre-facelift looks best in my opinion. What type specifically? Yellow isn't as bad of a color choice as I originally thought. There's a red '99 that's been sitting at a used car lot for awhile now that I intend to make mine if it's still around after I get out of college.
Just check the obvious wear parts and the RMS and IMS and these are fine driving machines! :)

YAY! You got approved! :)
I will now give you the very welcome I got with my very first post on oppo:
"This is a land where things are not as they seem and before you realize there is no escape, you are trapped ...This, my friends, is the OPPO ZONE."
Welcome!
I'm not kidding go check out my 911 Turbo post haha!

Its a nice car. It could use some more hp, but really what it comes with is enough. Its a lot of fun, the only thing it could use is an LSD. The transmission is a little rubbish, but it improves a lot with a short throw shifter.
and if he's looking at a 2011+ V6, what is he waiting for.
![]() 03/26/2014 at 20:23 |

2000 996 Carrera Aerokit Cup with sport seats and sport suspension.
Got a PPI and compression test to the tune of $986 to ensure strong engine and gearbox. Of course you can only do so much. Maintenance history, regular maintenance, and a bit of luck is what it'll take to keep these on the road.
What are you going to school for? Careful of garage queen 996s.

She's actually pretty torn right now, which I guess is a good problem to have. I believe her top options (as far as I know) are a newer V6 mustang, a late 90's/early 00's SVT Cobra and spend the extra money on go-fast parts, a Nissan S14, or a Z car of some sort. She even threw around the idea of an RX7. She's a pretty cool chick with great taste in cars, if you ask me. Last time I checked, I think she was leaning towards the newer V6 for reliability and the new-car perks, as well as the S14.
I'm personally hoping she goes with an S14 if she can find one.

Ahaha. Thanks a lot, man! I owe you one. And that welcome definitely seems as though it fits the overall mentality of Opponauts.

How cool, i have never met a girl here that likes cars.
Well tell her, depending on her driving skills, that the mustang is VERY tail happy specially in the wet, and it gets worse if you add bumpy road and curves.

I only know a few, but she is by far the most car obsessed girl I've met. It also doesn't hurt that she's, in my opinion, very attractive.
I'm honestly not sure what her skill level is, only that she is one of the few Connecticut drivers that isn't a complete moron (Reference: this article ). I'll take that as a good sign, and I'll let her know. Thanks for the input!

I'm gong to school for mechanical engineering. I don't want a garage queen 911; I want one that's proven, mechanically sound and well-driven. If it needs some TLC, I'll gladly accept and work on it. I want to own a 964, 991, 3.2 Carrera, 930 Turbo, and 993 all at once and have a 996 and 997 for track and Auto-X one day. That's the ultimate 911 dream for me!
